MAKE A SUCCESSFUL LOGO

An Aerial Photograph of the children standing outside will be used on the cover of our souvenir folder, so it's important that it is well composed.

1. Keep it simple. A 'smiley' face, the initials of your school and/or the year or just the word 'welcome' have all worked well in the past.

2. Plan it and practise it at least once beforehand. A minimum of 30 children should be used to make each letter or numeral. As a rule of thumb if you take one class to form an 'O' this will give you an idea of how big each letter/numeral should be. It is then a simple matter of chalk-marking your logo onto the playground so that the children can take up position before the helicopter arrives overhead.

3. Make it the right way up! Your logo should 'read' so that it shows underneath the school buildings. It often helps composition if you angle it slightly.

4. Keep it tight. By telling the children to link arms, hold hands, or put their hands on each other's shoulders, each letter or numeral will be solid when viewed from the air. This has an added advantage of keeping excitable children in their place!

5. Use up 'spare' children and staff to underline or box-frame your logo. We welcome parents who want to attend but please ask them to stand in an area well away from the logo so they will not be seen in the children's picture.
